Pentagon ‘reviewing’ report of near-COLLISION between drone & Air Force One with Trump on board

The US Air Force said it is probing a near-miss between a plane carrying President Donald Trump and an object believed to be a drone. The close call came just before the craft touched down at Andrews Air Base in Maryland.

The 89th Airlift Wing said it “is aware of the report” and that “the matter is under review,” in a brief statement on Monday, adding that the aircraft carrying the president “landed safely without incident.”

The potentially disastrous mishap unfolded on Sunday, first reported by the AFP’s Sebastian Smith, who was on board the flight. Taking to Twitter, Smith said that just prior to landing at Andrews, “while descending, we flew right over a small object, remarkably close to the president’s plane,” adding that the device “resembled a drone.”

Another reporter on board also noted the incident, relaying that “multiple” other passengers saw the object as well.

Mao Zedong ID'd as 'favorite' for Biden senior adviser

By Andrew Kerr
Daily Caller News Foundation

A senior advisor to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign said Chinese dictator Mao Zedong was one of her “favorite political philosophers” during a speech to graduating high schoolers in 2009.

Anita Dunn, who was temporarily granted effective control of Biden’s campaign in February and now serves as a senior advisor, said Mao and Mother Teresa were “the two people that I turn to most” when she needs to encourage others to break from the mold and blaze their own trail in life.

“In 1947, when Mao Zedong was being challenged within his own party on his plan to basically take China over … the nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army, they had the air force, they had everything on their side,” Dunn told the audience. “And people said how could you win? How could you do this?”

“And Mao Zedong said, ‘You fight your war and I’ll fight mine,’” Dunn said. “Think about that for a second. You don’t have to accept the definition of how to do things, and you don’t have to follow other people’s choices and paths. You fight your own war, you lay out your own path.”

Dunn was serving as acting White House Communications Director under former President Barack Obama when she was recorded making the comments about Mao. Dunn announced her resignation from her post in November 2019, less than a month after former Fox News host Glenn Beck first reported her comments.

Mao’s Great Leap Forward policy led to the deaths of an estimated 45 million Chinese people from 1958 to 1962, earning him the dubious distinction of being one of the biggest mass murderers in recorded human history.

Dunn said her reference to Mao in conjunction with Mother Teresa was intended to be ironic after her comments first surfaced in 2009.

“The Mao quote is one I picked up from the late Republican strategist Lee Atwater from something I read in the late 1980s, so I hope I don’t get my progressive friends mad at me,” Dunn told CNN in 2009.

“The use of the phrase ‘favorite political philosophers’ was intended as irony, but clearly the effort fell flat — at least with a certain Fox commentator whose sense of irony may be missing,” she added in reference to Beck.

Dunn has served as an advisor to Biden since he launched his 2020 presidential campaign. In February, when Biden’s campaign was in the doldrums, the former vice president temporarily granted Dunn final decision-making authority over his campaign, two senior Biden officials told The New York Times.

“She will be working closely with us on campaign strategy and overall coordination on budget and personnel as we build a bigger campaign for the next phase,” read a campaign email announcing Dunn’s expanded role obtained by The Times.

Dunn returned to her role as a senior advisor to Biden in March after the former vice president named Jen O’Malley Dillon as his campaign manager, according to The Washington Post.

The Biden campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

"Gosh Almighty": Democrats Call To End Durham Investigation Despite Proven Criminal Conduct

“Gosh Almighty”: Democrats Call To End Durham Investigation Despite Proven Criminal Conduct

Tyler Durden

Mon, 08/17/2020 – 19:50

Authored by Jonathan Turley,

Below is my column in the Hill on the announced criminal plea by former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith and the continued calls by Democratic leaders to end the John Durham investigation. This week I discussed the call of Andrew Weissmann, one of the top prosecutors with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, for DOJ lawyers to refuse to help in the investigation despite his own conflict of interest. When the Clinesmith plea was announced, Weissmann proceeded to deride the charge and make spurious legal and factual claims about its basis.  The Weissmann call for DOJ lawyers to hinder this investigation is unprofessional and unwarranted but hardly uncommon in this rage-filled environment.

Here is the column:

“Gosh almighty.”

Those words from former Vice President Joe Biden sum up plenty about the announced criminal plea by former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith. Of course, Biden was not referring to the implications of the FBI lawyer who lied to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court for the efforts to continue the surveillance of an adviser to the campaign of Donald Trump. Nor was he referring to growing evidence that the Russia investigation was launched based on false and flawed evidence.

Biden was referring to the federal investigation by United States Attorney John Durham that led to the criminal plea by Clinesmith. Like most other Democrats, Biden previously denounced the investigation and the effort to look into criminality. Now that criminality has been found, Democrats and commentators still insist there are no reasons to continue it.

From the start, Democrats overwhelmingly condemned the investigation despite admitting Durham is a respected prosecutor. Leaders like House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff deemed the investigation “tainted” and “political.” Biden mocked the very idea of an “investigation of the investigators” and added, “Give me a break. Gosh almighty.”

These are the same figures who repeatedly cited plea agreements in the special counsel investigation by Robert Mueller as proof that real crimes were waiting to be found. When the plea by former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn was announced, it was seen as the critical development even though FBI agents said they did not believe Flynn had intentionally lied about his conversations with Russian diplomats.

Many in the media cited the plea by Flynn to disprove the insistence by Trump that the Mueller investigation was a hoax. But they are not citing the plea by Clinesmith to disprove the statement by Biden. Indeed, they have barely covered it. It does not appear to matter that Clinesmith said “viva la resistance” after the 2016 election or that, after claiming he was devastated by the victory of Trump, he lamented that “my god damned name was all over those legal documents investigating his staff.”

But several Democrats and commentators maintained there was never a targeting of the campaign before the special counsel appointment. That was untrue. Declassified documents show that an agent was used with a national security briefing of Trump and his aides during the campaign to gather information for the Russia investigation. Who did the agent report to? Clinesmith and Peter Strzok at the FBI, who infamously referred to his own “insurance” with the chance that Trump might be elected.

This is a plea agreement so it is not known what information Clinesmith may have shared. Moreover, this is just the first public move by Durham, just as Flynn was the early salvo for Mueller. But the date of this criminal false statement is key. In September 2016, administration officials leaked the existence of the classified investigation in the midst of the campaign and suggested Trump adviser Carter Page was a Russian agent.

This secret surveillance started the next month, based on that allegation against Page, when he was in fact an American asset. The FISA court was never told that information in the surveillance application was derived in part from the dossier, or that it was paid for by the opposition campaign. Nor was it told that at the time, FBI agents challenged both the bias and credibility for the dossier author and past British spy Christopher Steele, who was known to have given interviews for the media and claimed that he was trying to defeat Trump and assist the Clinton campaign.

In January 2017, Trump was inaugurated and FBI agents had sought to end their investigation of Flynn, citing no evidence of a crime. However, Strzok evidently wanted the collusion investigation to remain open and, later that month, Clinesmith also sought to renew that surveillance order over Page. His FISA application expressly cited the Steele dossier and described it as credible, despite knowing the different findings by FBI agents.

In February 2017, there were more leaks about alleged collusion by Trump officials with the Russians, a claim that even Strzok said was unsupported. The FBI was finding no evidence of collusion, while there was pressure to end the investigation. In June 2017, Clinesmith falsified an email in a third FISA application. What he was able to hide from the court was incredible. The court was told that Page might be a Russian asset for a conspiracy to influence the election as Clinesmith was told that Page was an American asset who was working by meeting with Russians. Clinesmith altered one critical email to state otherwise and extend the investigation.

When Clinesmith took this criminal action, the Russia collusion theory had already fallen apart. Both former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates declared they would never have signed off on all the surveillance applications if they knew then what they know today. Rosenstein called for the Durham investigation to finish, while Yates called for accountability for all of the misconduct.

With news of the criminal plea by Clinesmith, one might expect the media and our members of Congress to demand the same vigorous investigation from Durham as they did from Mueller. The collusion allegations that were noted to launch the Russia investigation were after all ultimately rejected. Durham is by contrast investigating the bias and misconduct.

So we have a collusion investigation that was shown to be based on false or unreliable information. It was launched and maintained by officials who were accused by an inspector general of misconduct, false statements, or procedural errors. Today we have the actual criminal guilty plea. However, many voices in Washington continue to insist that there are no reasons for Durham to continue digging.

As Biden says, “Gosh almighty.”

No ‘Andretti Curse’ in August, says Marco

August 17, 2020

By Steve Keating

(Reuters) – After more than five decades of Brickyard frustration the “Andretti Curse” has become as much a part of the Indianapolis 500 as the command for drivers to “start your engines”.

American motor racing royalty, the Andrettis have ruled over open wheel racing in the United States with a string of victories that have connected generations — father (Mario), to son (Michael), to grandson (Marco).

But for all their success at circuits around the world, Mario’s Indy 500 victory in 1969 stands alone.

Over the years what was first shrugged off as bad luck, became cruel misfortune then later a full blown jinx that now ranks right up there with the Boston Red Sox “Curse of the Bambino” and Chicago Cubs’ “Curse of the Billy Goat”.

For those looking for signs that whatever voodoo planted on the Andrettis will be lifted this year, there were hints on Sunday that something was different when 33-year-old Marco grabbed pole position 33-years after Mario was the last Andretti to start from the front.

The Andrettis have happily played along when it comes to the curse, neither embracing or dismissing it.

Marco routinely turns the tables saying his family is not cursed but blessed while at the same time conceding the results suggest darker forces at work.

A theory this year has the curse thrown out of whack by the COVID-19 pandemic which forced the Indy 500 to move from its traditional May 24th date to Aug. 23.

“I don’t think it (the curse) exists in August so we are good,” Andretti told Reuters with a laugh. “As a family we would talk that we are blessed not cursed but it is a cool media story and we have been running with it.

“Results wise, yeah, maybe there is something to it because man the three of us have been so dominate here.

“We have a bunch of podiums but this is one place where that doesn’t matter.”

Certainly when it comes to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Andrettis relationship has been more star-crossed than aligned.

Marco’s father Michael, has been a five-times winner of the Indy 500 as a team owner but 16 times as a driver could not get to Victory Lane.

In his 2006 rookie season Marco finished second but has never been that close again.

An American driver winning the Indianapolis 500 will have fans waving the Stars and Stripes – an Andretti winning “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” would bring fireworks.

Fans, drivers and anyone connected to motor racing understands what the Andretti name means to the sport.

When Marco’s name flashed at the top of the timing tower on Sunday social media exploded and the pit lane applauded.

Fellow drivers ran to Marco’s car to offer congratulations while his father hugged him and fought back tears.

Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols there will be no spectators in grandstands that normally would be packed with close to 300,000 motor racing fans.

Either way Andretti says he will still feel the support.

“Just feeling the support from the pole I can’t even imagine what it would be like if we won the race,” said Marco. “You would see a few grown men cry.

“Just seeing the videos of fans across the street wearing my jersey, that’s so cool and the unwavering support on social media.”

Virginia state senator, NAACP leaders charged with felony 'injury' to Confederate statueA Virginia state senator and other local activists were arrested Sen. Louise Lucas, a Democrat who represents Portsmouth, was charged with felony “injury to a monument” and conspiracy Monday, as were the city’s NAACP president and vice president, a school board member, and four others. The charges stemmed from a June protest where protesters tore down a statue of a Confederate soldier, though it’s unclear if Lucas played a role in taking it down, per local station WAVY.The timing of the arrest raised suspicion from Virginia House Rep.
