Reports of gunfire & explosions as IDF launches flares in response to ‘security incident’ at Lebanese border (PHOTO, VIDEOS)

The Israeli military said it responded to a “security incident” along the border with Lebanon, firing off a barrage of flares amid reports of explosions and gunfire in the area.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported an unspecified incident near Manara, a kibbutz straddling the Israeli-Lebanese border, late on Tuesday night, saying it had closed a number of roads in the area. It later ordered residents from Manara and nearby communities to remain indoors and cease “activity in open areas,” though did not provide a reason.

Videos purporting to show IDF flares illuminating the night sky have circulated on social media, “dozens” of which were fired along the border over concerns of a “possible infiltration,” according to the Jerusalem Post.

Online reports suggested that the flares came after shots were fired near an IDF border outpost.

The glowing munitions were reportedly visible from Manara, as well as the Lebanese border towns of Kfarchouba and Mays al-Jabal.

A correspondent from Lebanon’s Al-Manar TV, a media outlet linked to the Hezbollah movement, also reported the use of phosphorus munitions – typically used to produce smoke or illumination, but also as an incendiary. Footage has emerged online appearing to show that weapon in use.

While Al-Manar later noted that it witnessed no IDF shelling, uncorroborated images allegedly showing undetonated shells found on the Lebanese side of the border have made the rounds online. A senior defense analyst for Walla News, an Israeli outlet, also said numerous explosions were heard around the border area, citing local reports, while Israel’s Channel 13 TV station pointed to possible gunfire and blasts, though both claims remain unconfirmed.

The so-called “security incident” comes amid lingering hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, and about a month after the IDF accused the group of another cross-border incursion, which it denied. Hezbollah has also vowed to retaliate for a recent Israeli strike near Damascus that killed one of its fighters. The militant group has long fought alongside Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the country’s war against rebel insurgents, however Tel Aviv argues that it seeks to launch attacks on Israel from Syrian territory, prompting dozens of Israeli strikes throughout the years-long conflict.

DiGenova: Brennan likely a witness against James Comey

James Comey (FBI photo)

Former CIA Director John Brennan apparently is now a witness against fired FBI Director James Comey in the Justice Department’s criminal investigation of the Obama administration’s probe of Trump-Russia collusion, according to former U.S. Attorney Joseph diGenova.

Brennan has been interviewed by U.S. Attorney John Durham’s team at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, and, according to a longtime aid has been told he’s not a “subject or a target” of a criminal investigation, the Washington Examiner reported. And Comey told CBS News on Sunday he “can’t imagine” being a target of the inquiry.

But diGenova, in an interview Monday on WMAL in New York’s “Mornings on the Mall” show, diGenova, believes Brennan is now a witness against Comey.

“I don’t know whether he’s a target or not. I can’t concede to the fact that he isn’t given that Kevin Clinesmith guilty plea last week. But there’s no doubt that Comey is at the center of the investigation,” he said. “The fact that he has not been interviewed and the fact that the FBI, it is obvious, is now the central focus of the Durham investigation.”

DiGenova said it’s likely that Brennan’s spokesman was telling the truth that the former CIA director was not a subject or a target.

“I can’t imagine his spokesman would make a false statement about the nature of his relationship [with] Durham, which Durham could quickly correct,” he said. “I’m assuming that Brennan is free, and as a result of that, he has become a witness against James Comey. Not willingly, but I think he’s been forced to become a witness. And I think it’s pretty clear right now that what they are doing is, they’re following up on [Attorney General] Bill Barr’s prescription, which is not every abuse of power is a crime. And that is what Brennan got the benefit of.”

Last weekend, Comey claimed there was nothing wrong with the conduct of the FBI in the Russia collusion investigation.

“Given that I know what happened during 2016, which was a bunch of people trying to do the right thing consistent with the law, I’m not worried at all about that investigation of the investigation,” he said. “Next, I’m sure will be an investigation of the investigation of the investigation. They just want to have an investigation to talk about.”

Former Republican congressman Trey Gowdy, now a Fox News analyst, also said it appears the FBI is coming under increasing scrutiny as Durham’s review nears its end.

Last week, the first case to be made public from Durham’s investigation netted a guilty plea from former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith. He was accused of doctoring an email during in the bureau’s application to renew a warrant to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

McCloskeys Receive Threats After Speaking Out Against Violent BLM Mob and Missouri Marxist Candidate for Congress Cori Bush

On Monday night Mark and Patricia McCloskey spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Mark McCloskey, who along with his wife Patricia was forced to protect their St. Louis home when marauding protesters stormed their neighborhood, told reporters violence and riots are coming “to a neighborhood near you.”

They know this firsthand. It came to their quiet neighborhood earlier this year.

“We have a God-given right to defend ourselves. The right of self-defense is one of the most basic civil rights — one of the most basic human rights,” Mark McCloskey told “Fox & Friends.” “You cannot have freedom and an opportunity to advance unless you have basic safety and security, and that it is not just limited to big cities. They are bringing it to a neighborhood near you,” McCloskey said.

It was a powerful speech. It is something every American fears for their home and family.
Democrats did not address the recent riots during their convention all last week.

But now — to the surprise of no one — the McCloskeys are receiving threats for daring to speak out against the Black Lives Matter mob and Missouri Marxist Cori Bush who is likely heading to Washington DC in the fall.

KSDK reported:

The couple’s attorney, Albert S. Watkins, sent out an email Tuesday afternoon that said the McCloskeys have been subjected to an “onslaught of threats and acts of intimidation. Appropriate security measures have been put into place and added measures are being implemented.”

“My clients will not shake like small dogs passing razor blades,” said Albert S. Watkins. “Instead their resolve to stand true to their core constitutionally protected beliefs are steeled.

“The right to protect one’s family and home is primal, protected by the law, and not one the McCloskeys are willing to permit to be subrogated to threats, intimidation and cowardly acts of bullies,” Watkins said in the email.

Thiel-backed Palantir to go public via direct listing, reveals 2019 loss of $580 million

August 25, 2020

By Anirban Sen and Joshua Franklin

(Reuters) – Palantir Technologies on Tuesday filed to go public through a direct listing, as the data analytics company known for working with the Central Intelligence Agency and other government groups prepares for one of the biggest market debuts of the year.

The company, which was founded in 2003 by a group including Donald Trump backer Peter Thiel, unveiled losses that are set to test the appetite of capital market investors who have in recent years shown an increasing wariness of backing loss-making startups, most notably WeWork, which botched its IPO last year.

The move to lift the lid on its business for the first time marked a major moment for Palantir, which is widely seen as one of the most reclusive companies in Silicon Valley.

The company reported a net loss of about $580 million in 2019, about the same as its loss in 2018. Revenue came in at $742 million last year, compared to $595 million in 2018. (https://bit.ly/2EzduAK)

For the first six months of 2020, the company posted revenue of $481 million, up 49% from the year-earlier period. In June, Reuters reported, citing sources, the company expects revenue in 2020 to grow to $1 billion.

“Notwithstanding losses, its business model continues to leverage off existing clients by offering more value through better data on longer duration contracts,” said Matt Novak, managing partner at All Blue Capital, a Palantir investor.

The Thiel-backed firm had confidentially filed to go public in July.

As opposed to a traditional initial public offering, a direct listing does not raise fresh funds. In a direct-listing model, existing investors get to sell their shares.

Palantir, which derives its name from a magical artifact in “The Lord of the Rings”, specializes in analyzing large quantities of data. The company is widely seen as a tech firm with a rebellious streak in Silicon Valley, with its recent decision to move its headquarters to Denver.

“Our company was founded in Silicon Valley. But we seem to share fewer and fewer of the technology sector’s values and commitments,” Palantir said in its filing.

Thiel, known for his tech investing credentials as a co-founder of PayPal and Facebook Inc’s first major investor, is the chairman of Palantir, with fellow co-founder Alexander Karp the current chief executive officer.

Thiel was also an early investor in LinkedIn and part of the so-called “Paypal Mafia” in Silicon Valley, referring to a group of highly successful entrepreneurs who went on to start and invest in prominent tech startups.

Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs are among the financial advisers for Palantir’s listing.
