'Most brazen media suppression in US history’: Republicans go after Twitter over censorship of NYPost’s Biden bombshell

Suppressing several stories critical of Democrat candidate Joe Biden amounted to election interference and an illegal political contribution, the Republican National Committee said in a complaint to the election watchdog FEC.

The party filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission on Friday, accusing Twitter of illegally interfering with the 2020 US presidential election through its muscular censorship of a handful of articles that appeared to expose Biden’s son Hunter’s dodgy business dealings with Ukrainian and Chinese entities.

Twitter’s unprecedented blackout, which blocked all sharing of links to the stories and even locked the accounts of certain high-profile individuals who posted related information, constituted an “illegal corporate in-kind political contribution” to Biden’s presidential campaign, the RNC declared in its complaint, a copy of which was obtained by Fox News. Twitter, the party declared, had violated the Federal Election Campaign Act with its blackout on the Biden exposé.

Another ‘hack’ job? Censorship of the Hunter Biden story shows Twitter & Facebook have a big dog in the US political fight

Calling the microblogging platform “a partisan actor, run by partisan Democrats,” the RNC accused Twitter of “using its corporate resources to provide active support for Joe Biden’s campaign in violation of federal law.” The Republicans demanded the FEC “conduct an immediate investigation” into Twitter’s partisan malfeasance and “impose the maximum penalty allowed under the law.”

The complaint noted that Twitter had locked or even suspended accounts of senior government officials such as White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, the official Trump campaign account @TeamTrump, and even Politico reporter Jake Sherman before “independent fact checkers had even weighed in on the accuracy of the story,” observing that “Democrat media consultants can only dream of such abilities” and would pay through the nose for them if given the opportunity.

Twitter’s blanket suppression of the stories thus constituted “illegal, corporate in-kind contributions” to the Biden campaign, the RNC argued. Pointing to Twitter’s ongoing “feud” with Trump and referencing “frequent efforts to censor the President’s tweets” alongside “‘shadow banning’ of prominent Republicans,” the party claimed that 98.7 percent of the company’s political donations had gone to Democrats.

The RNC also highlighted “a revolving door between the Biden campaign and the company,” mentioning two Twitter executives who had jumped from the Biden-Harris team to the social network and back.

The complaint highlighted Twitter’s shifting explanations for its suppression of the Biden stories, which appeared to cast doubt on the former vice president’s claims that he had no knowledge of his son Hunter’s dealings with Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings. The stories cited emails supposedly retrieved from the younger Biden’s laptop, indicating the candidate had in fact met with a high-ranking Burisma executive at his son’s behest less than a year before allegedly pressuring Kiev to fire a prosecutor investigating Burisma.

While Twitter had initially claimed sharing the articles was “potentially harmful” or violated a never-before-invoked rule on sharing “hacked material,” the platform later changed tactics, suggesting the stories instead “violated its policies on displaying private information” in a message displayed to the @TeamTrump account when it was locked. However, as the RNC pointed out, Twitter had displayed no such respect for private information when the New York Times published what it claimed were the president’s income tax returns.

Too little too late? Twitter announces ‘hacked materials’ policy update after Biden expose censorship fiasco

Twitter wasn’t the only platform to take upon itself the burden of shutting down all access to the Biden ‘October Surprise’ stories. Facebook executive Andy Stone – himself a former Democratic Party staffer – admitted on Wednesday to restricting the story’s spread until the platform’s hyper-partisan fact-checkers could tear it to pieces, and some YouTube users complained their videos detailing the stories’ allegations had been removed as well.

Later on Thursday, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey appeared to apologize over the platform’s Orwellian response to the Post stories and announced a revised policy on dealing with “hacked” materials. Hacked content would not be removed unless it was shared directly by the hackers or individuals working “in concert” with them, the platform announced later in the day.

Taiwan Must Prepare To Deter Chinese Amphibious Landing: National Security Advisor O'Brien

Taiwan Must Prepare To Deter Chinese Amphibious Landing: National Security Advisor O’Brien

Tyler Durden

Fri, 10/16/2020 – 19:50

Days after China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted large-scale joint amphibious landing drills on the Chinese coast, President Trump’s national security advisor has issued provocative statements Friday while speaking at an Aspen Institute event.

Robert C. O’Brien, currently Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, urged Taiwan to pursue strategies for deterring a Chinese amphibious landing.

“Taiwan needs to start looking at some asymmetric and anti-access area denial strategies” ultimately to deter a land invasion when the time comes, O’Brien stated.

The comments from such a high level Trump official reveal that the White House sees Beijing as fast approaching a hostile and war footing concerning the Taiwan issue.

“China doesn’t have the military strength to take over Taiwan now, but perhaps could 5 years from now,” he added in the provocative comments which certainly won’t go unnoticed in Beijing.

And further on China, responding to Stephen Hadley, former George W. Bush national security advisor, national security advisor O’Brien said, “I think what the president did with the tariffs is he finally woke up the Chinese…” and argued that the Trump administration has succeeded at “establishing alternate supply lines for rare earths” – though without giving details of precisely how or to what extent this has actually been achieved.

The subject of Taiwan in the course of the remote Aspen Institute discussion began with the following comments of O’Brien:

“They’re bullying Taiwan, they’ve taken over Hong Kong lock, stock, and barrel… they’ve asserted rights to the South China Sea like it’s Lake Tahoe or something.”

“I don’t think the Chinese probably at this point want or likely are prepared for an amphibious landing”… they have massive missiles, but if they strike “They’d lose everything they’re hope to gain and become a massive international pariah.”

The comments are very timely also considering China at the start of this week kicked off massive amphibious landing drills which are meant to send a “message” to Taiwan over what state-run Global Times calls “rampant secessionist moves”.

It also comes as Washington ramps up military weapons sales to the island, something which has come under repeat Chinese condemnation over violation of the ‘One China’ policy status quo.

Jonathan T. Gilliam: The Leftist Family Tree Of Sedition and Treason

Guest post by Jonathan T. Gilliam

If 2020 was a sporting event, it would be the bottom of the ninth inning in the final game of the World Series. Except the opposing team would all be clones of Mike Tyson, and we would be on the brink of a bench clearing brawl. In order to truly reflect on 2020, we would have to remove all the umpires except one, and he wouldn’t really get involved much (FBI and DOJ).

This is exactly where we find ourselves in 2020 as we enter into the final stages of the year and the lead up to the Presidential election. Politics is not business as usual, and the nation is closer to a civil war than it has been since the 1860’s. Yet as I travel around the nation, speaking and meeting with groups of concerned citizens, everywhere I visit, people are asking the same two questions: “How did we get to this point” and “What do we do now?”

While these may seem like two completely different questions, they are related by the fact that Leftists engaged in bullying this nation in an increasingly violent manner are largely going unchecked and We-The-People have allowed it to happen. We believed it was a movement that wouldn’t amount to anything substantial. It is all too clear that the Socialistic, Communist, Globalist movement is very substantial. In fact, if you do decide to stand your ground like the McCloskey’s did in St Louis, when a group of Black Lives Matter Marxists tore down a gate and entered their neighborhood, you could be charged with state felonies even though the attackers were led by an admitted Marxist who advocates for the overthrow of the nation’s government. Yet by todays DOJ standards, advocating for the overthrow of the nation just doesn’t seem to meet the guidelines anymore of treason and sedition conspiracy.

This brings us to this week’s social media censorship of Conservatives and all things that could injure Joe Biden’s bid for the Presidency. From the investigative perspective of a former FBI Special Agent, I can say there is clear evidence of a massive conspiracy that has been growing for years. This conspiracy is like a family tree of treason and sedition with different limbs, roots and a giant trunk that perform different tasks, all working towards the same political aim of the leftist takeover.

As this tree grows, each individual part of the family tree does what it does best: Organizers plan, direct, and acquire logistics and funding. Activists rally, riot, and protest. Big money donors ensure the funding flows seamlessly and that politicians are properly lobbied. Corrupt leftwing attorneys, prosecutors, and law enforcement executives all maneuver where needed to dominate the justice system and ensure planned destructive actions occur with total disregard for the Constitution or fear of prosecution of anyone involved in the conspiracy.

Media has taken on an increasingly overt role since 2016, acting as both an echo chamber and as a manufacturer of evidence that the Left uses to validate accusations they created themselves in order to sideline anything and anyone that opposes their ideology. Yet the trunk of this family tree is made up of what most people refer to as “The Swamp,” but as you can see now it’s actually not a swamp, but a long standing, well fertilized family tree. The political machine of Washington DC is the heart from which the blood flows, feeding and sustaining the entire tree, but its roots are deeply embedded into each State’s governments, all the way down to the local school boards where indoctrination of future Leftists begins.
Then you have your social media platforms and covert overwatchers and influencers who are ready at a moment’s notice to delete accounts such as my Instagram and Facebook that have been removed this past week for no reason except for having a conservative stance. It is the closest to Americans being held hostage since the British occupied this nation and forced allegiance to their King 240 years ago. And while everyone is up in arms about how Twitter and Facebook shut down a New York Post article about Hunter Biden, what is being missed is the cancelling of normal Conservative citizens from the Leftist-controlled social media platforms. People have lost all contact with childhood friends and family members, had their online businesses crushed, their ability to see different perspectives of news events squashed, all because they don’t conform to Marxist doctrine.

Ultimately, sadly, it is the free citizenry that continues to water and cultivate this evil, Leftist family tree. Some knowingly taking part and others allowing it to grow as a result of their own inaction. Regardless, what we are experiencing in this nation is in fact a violation of our First and Third Amendments as our speech is no longer free and the have quartered within our homes, phones, and daily lives, just like the British soldiers did in private homes. We have no choice and no Government that is willing to do what it takes to stop this Marxist invasion.

2021 is just around the corner, and I have a feeling that the bench clearing brawl I wrote about at the beginning of this editorial is just about to spill onto the field.

Jonathan Gilliam will be speaking in Albany, New York on Saturday.

Alabama coach Saban tests negative in COVID-19 follow-up

October 16, 2020

Alabama coach Nick Saban received a negative result in follow-up COVID-19 testing, the school announced Friday.

The result leaves open the possibility for Saban to coach in Saturday’s showdown between the No. 2 Crimson Tide and No. 3 Georgia at Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Saban, 68, revealed he tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and has remained asymptomatic. He has since worked from home.

The school said Saban’s negative result came back on Thursday. Further test results are slated to come back on Friday and Saturday.

Alabama trainer Jeff Allen said if Saban has three negative tests, the initial test will be considered a false positive and Saban would be free to return to work.

“He will continue to remain in isolation and receive daily PCR tests,” Allen said of Saban in a statement. “Should he have three negative PCR tests through the SEC appointed lab, each 24 hours apart, the initial test would be considered a false positive pursuant to SEC protocols and he would be allowed to return.”

Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian has been overseeing preparations for the game with Saban away from the school.

Alabama and Georgia are both 3-0 overall and 3-0 in SEC play.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne’s positive test was also revealed by the school on Wednesday.

Saban is the fifth known FBS football coach to test positive for COVID-19 this season. Blake Anderson (Arkansas State), Les Miles (Kansas), Mike Norvell (Florida State) and Kevin Sumlin (Arizona) also have tested positive since Labor Day.

BlackRock’s Fink ‘pretty bearish’ on emerging markets

October 16, 2020

NEW YORK (Reuters) – BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said on Friday he believes emerging markets are on a downward slide as he sees strong macro trends weighing on the asset class.

“I am pretty bearish on the emerging world,” Fink said at an online event hosted by the Institute of International Finance.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic is taxing emerging economies and their health systems more than developed countries, de-globalization is hurting the commodity-dependent countries and the group is more sensitive to effects of climate change.

“When we talk about climate change, and we think that’s a big issue and a reallocation of capital,” Fink said, “part of that reallocation of capital is movement out of the emerging world.”

Outside these global macro trends, a lack of trust in EM governments is further hurting the asset class, the head of BlackRock said.

“We’re seeing a flip-flop of governments. One government could raise a lot of debt, new government comes in and (there’s) different behaviors, different attitudes, and it doesn’t create any confidence for the debt holders,” Fink said.

“The risk premium that you’re going to have to demand to invest in the emerging markets is growing persistently.”

Following a sharp spike in March as COVID-19-related shutdowns spread all over the world, the rolling-year average premium demanded to hold EM debt rose to its highest in more than a decade.

BlackRock is the world’s largest asset manager with almost $8 trillion under management.

Fink added that many emerging countries are going to have to restructure their debt and their leaders are not aware of who is holding the debt and how that affects a restructuring.

“I have had three or four conversations with leaders of different emerging countries… it’s like I’m telling them some facts from outer space,” Fink said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will lead a U.S. delegation traveling to Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on Oct. 17-20, the Treasury Department said in a statement on Friday.

The visit comes one month after the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed agreements to establish formal ties with Israel, becoming the first Arab states to do so in a quarter-century, in deals that were denounced by Palestinian leaders.

For a teacher in France, a civics class was followed by a gruesome death

October 16, 2020

By Antony Paone

CONFLANS-SAINTE-HONORINE, France (Reuters) – The middle school teacher knifed to death on the street of a Paris suburb on Friday showed his teenage students a cartoon lampooning the Prophet Mohammad as part of a class on freedom of expression earlier this month, parents said.

Nordine Chaouadi told Reuters he was the father of a 13-year-old pupil who attended the civics class given by the teacher, whom parents gathered outside the college referred to as Mr. Paty. French media have identified him as Samuel Paty.

The teacher had asked pupils who were Muslim to raise their hands and invited them to leave, advising them he would be showing a caricature of Mohammad that might cause offence, said Chaouadi.

For Muslims, any depiction of the Prophet is blasphemous.

Chaouadi said his son, a Muslim, interpreted the teacher’s actions as done out of kindness and respect for their faith.

“He did it to protect the children, not to shock them,” said Chaouadi.

Some parents took offence, however. Two or three days later, they held a meeting at the school with the teacher, school principal, and an official from the education authority.

“It went well. There was no shouting or talking over each other. My wife took part in it. She said it was a man who made a mistake, it happens to everyone,” Chaouadi added.

One man who said his daughter was in the class gave a similar account of the lesson in a video recorded around the time of the meeting. However, he branded the history teacher a thug, and posted the video on social media. The post was shared by a Paris mosque, among others.

Reuters was not immediately able to authenticate the video.

In the video, the man says: “If you want to join forces and say ‘stop, don’t touch our children, then send me a message.’

“This thug should not remain in the national education system, should no longer teach our children. He should go educate himself,” he continues in the recording.

The school, the College du Bois d’Aulne in the middle-class suburb of Conflans-Saint-Honorine, could not immediately be reached for comment.

It was unclear whether the attacker, who was shot dead by police and has not been named, had seen the video.

Lawmakers and teachers’ unions hailed the slain teacher’s courage for confronting challenging taboos in French society. Freedom of expression was a core tenet of democracy, they said.

Jean-Remi Girard, president of the National Union of School Teachers, told BFM TV that children needed to understand that blasphemy can shock, but is legal.

Blood has been spilled before in France over satire targeting Islam. Islamist militants killed 12 in a gun rampage in the office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in 2015 after it published a series of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.

Local centre-right lawmaker Antoine Savignat said, “If we cannot talk about the Charlie Hebdo caricatures in school, we end up in denialism… In France, the country of freedom of expression, this cannot be allowed to happen.”

San Francisco looks to rename 44 schools, expunging the likes of Washington, Lincoln and even FEINSTEIN for their impurities

Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt are among the historical figures whose names are no longer considered honorable enough to adorn public schools in San Francisco.

The city’s school board is looking to rename as many as 44 of the 125 public schools in its district after a panel of community members appointed to study the issue found their namesakes to be problematic by today’s standards of woke conduct, the local ABC television affiliate reported. The committee’s review criteria targeted colonizers, slave owners, perpetrators of genocide, racists, human-rights violators, environmental abusers and those who oppressed or abused women, children, gay or transgender people.

A statue of Charles Darwin at the natural History Museum in South Kensington, London
‘You thought it would stop at statues?’ Darwin exhibits at UK’s Natural History Museum may be canceled for being ‘offensive’

Three of the four men whose faces were sculpted on Mt. Rushmore failed to measure up, including the president who pushed through the constitutional amendment abolishing slavery in the US. The committee found all three to have connections to slavery, genocide or oppression, so Abraham Lincoln High School, George Washington High School and Jefferson Elementary may be renamed.

Roosevelt Middle School also was put on the renaming block after Franklin Roosevelt, the only four-term US president, was deemed problematic. Even US Senator Dianne Feinstein was found to have insufficient moral purity, meaning Feinstein Elementary may get a new name. The staunch Democrat was faulted for reportedly replacing a vandalized Confederate flag back in 1986, when she was San Francisco’s mayor.

Other namesakes who didn’t make the grade included Paul Revere, the revolutionary silversmith who warned of the British invasion in 1775; Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to the national anthem; and abolitionist poet James Lowell.

One committee member also pushed – apparently unsuccessfully – for the canceling of Thomas Edison Elementary because the inventor electrocuted stray dogs and cats in demonstrations of his findings.

The school board has asked principals of the affected schools and parents of students to submit suggestions for new names by December 18. The board plans to vote on any name changes in January or February. It may decide to keep the current names of at least some of the 44 schools targeted for renaming by the committee.

The renaming push comes amid a left-wing war on history that has toppled statues ranging from Confederate generals to founding fathers to President Theodore Roosevelt to an iconic elk that had stood in downtown Portland for 120 years. San Francisco’s school board voted last year to cover up 1930s murals at George Washington High School because they depicted slaves and a dead Native American man.

Local media reports noted opposition to changing school names, including a statement by San Francisco Mayor London Breed that devoting resources to the initiative is “offensive” given that the buildings remain closed to in-person classes amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Twitter commenters were more focused on the mental state of San Francisco’s decision-makers, calling the move “more sickness,” “coocoo” and “going too far.” Others suggested new names that might be more appreciated in San Francisco: including Lenin, Stalin, Marx, Mao, Pelosi and George Floyd.

One observer said the controversy reflects a broken political system: “If we cannot even agree on our founding, there needs to be a serious discussion whether the American experiment is over and how to divide up the territories.” Another pointed out the lack of nuance in cancel culture, saying, “Imagine never possessing the capacity to realize the complex mix of good and bad that every human has within. Everyone can be canceled by today’s thin criteria.”
