Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen condemned the rioters who forced their way into the Capitol Wednesday, saying the Department of Justice (DOJ) would “enforce the laws of our land.”
In a shocking statement on Fox News, CPAC’s Matt Schlapp suggested on live TV that the unarmed 16-year-old girl who was shot by Capitol police during Wednesday’s protest may have “deserved it.”
The young unarmed girl was behind a closed and locked door when the officer shot through the window and struck her in the neck and killed her.
“I understand there’s a 16-year-old young woman who was shot. Now maybe she was doing terrible things and deserved to be shot,” Schlapp said. “We’re the party that talks about law and order and respecting cops.”

The woman appeared to be standing behind a group of people who were attempting to gain entry into the chamber. Police had barricaded the doors and were attempting to keep the patriot protesters out — and then drew their weapons. They opened fired and shot her.

A swarm of President Trump supporters intent on blocking President-elect Joe Biden’s victory stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, forcing a lockdown and a large police response. Kris Van Cleave has the latest.

Congress members and former White House officials are criticizing the president after pro-Trump supporters and protesters breached the Capitol building.
“Tonight, Congress will continue the business of certifying the electoral college votes,” Congressman Jim Clyburn, Democrat of South Carolina, tweeted.
After some of his supporters stormed Congress, US President Donald Trump said they had been wronged and mistreated but should go home in peace and “remember this day forever,” as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube restricted his posts.
“These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday evening, as protesters were leaving the US Capitol and a curfew went into effect.
“Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!” he urged.
Twitter first restricted interactions with the tweet citing “risk of violence,” – along with the perfunctory denunciation of Trump’s claims about the election as “disputed” – before deleting it altogether for “violating Twitter rules.”
Earlier, Facebook had deleted outright a video posted by Trump calling for people to peacefully retreat from Capitol Hill, also citing fear of “violence.” YouTube likewise removed the video, saying it violated its recently announced policy “regarding content that alleges widespread election fraud.”
Hundreds of demonstrators broke through the security fence around the Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, eventually making their way through the Capitol Police and breaching the Senate and House chambers and offices. One woman was shot by police and later died.
The lawmakers, who had been meeting to formally certify Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election – which Trump maintains was plagued by fraud in half a dozen states – interrupted the session and were evacuated to the nearby Fort McNair Army installation.
“I am asking for everyone at the US Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence!” Trump tweeted around 3 pm. “Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”

Thousands of the president’s supporters had gathered in Washington, DC on Wednesday to protest the “stolen” election and demand of Congress to not certify the votes.
Citing the unrest, a number of Democrats have called for impeaching Trump again and expelling any Republicans who might back him, while GOP members rushed to denounce attacks on “our democracy” and vowed to back Biden.

Not The Onion: Maduro’s Venezuela Condemns Capitol Violence, Urges “Calm & Stability”
In the ultimate irony to kick off the chaos that is 2021 – or as some are already calling this new year, “2020 on steroids” – the government of Venezuela is urging for calm and “stability” in the United States.
There’s little doubt that Maduro and his Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza were giddy with excitement as the latter crafted a formal message to US leaders which “condemns the political polarization” in the USA.
From Caracas to Washington:
Venezuela expresses its concern over the acts of violence that are taking place in the city of Washington, USA; it condemns the political polarisation and hopes that people in the USA can open a new path toward stability and social justice. https://t.co/d9EQFC2Sb4
The message, also posted to the Venezuelan FM’s verified Twitter account, calls out the “acts of violence” currently rocking the capitol in DC and expressed “concern”.
According to a partial rough translation, the communication says:
“Venezuela expresses its concern over the acts of violence that are taking place in the city of Washington, USA; it condemns the political polarization and hopes that the US people can open a new path towards stability and social justice.
Venezuela condemns the political polarization and the spiral of violence that only reflects the profound crisis that the political and social system of the United States is currently experiencing.”
The letter further calls out American hypocrisy in language that contains a bit of gloating over the apparent political instability in the US, even as the Trump administration has for years been lecturing Venezuela over its own internal strife.
It emphasizes that “with this unfortunate episode, the United States suffers the same thing that they have generated in other countries with their aggressive policies.”
“Venezuela hopes that the acts of violence will soon cease and the American people will finally be able to open a new path towards stability and social justice,” the message adds.
So this is where we are: socialist Venezuela which in the last two years has been hit with multiple failed coup attempts against the Nicolás Maduro regime is now gleefully lecturing the United States on bringing “stability” to its own serious domestic unrest.
